Since I know that all of my faithful readers (Josiah, Reno) are on the edge of your seat wondering if I decided to go for that youth ministry job I thought I might tell you the outcome. Then I realized that you both already know so I don't need to say anything here.
Just kidding. More people read than that right?
Yes, Brent Williams (who I am convinced stalks me since he knows everything without me telling him) addressed me as "Mr. Youth Pastor" the other day. That was weird, so I'll stick with "youth leader"... I'm no pastor. Dr. Jones led my first time in "Youth at Center Christian" and he introduced me, gave a quick lesson on the first few verses of Philippians and now I'm on my own. We had only two kids- bro and sis, Adam and Erin but I'm sure I'll be able to meet more soon. I'm no longer nervous about whether I'm ready- I'm just excited.
Yesterday I was running out of Wengatz to meet some friends to go to dinner when I ran into Mr. Williams, my middle school band director. He went here back in the day and was taking some high schoolers from his church to visit. He's one of the people I think of when people ask how I knew about Taylor and decided to come here. It's funny because he was always a "good public school employee" and never said anything blatantly Christian and I don't know how little ole 7th grade me sensed it, but I feel like I knew somehow and I really looked up to him. We tried to meet up a couple of times that evening but I was too busy so we got to talk a bit on the way to chapel. He's now a youth/associate pastor at his church after abruptly resigning from his job at the school (while being offered an administrative position, but he felt God's call too strongly. I really admired that, seeing how I know I've felt similar calls and dropped plans that look great to the world to follow God and it's encouraging to see the same in him.
